Senate Majority Whip Wendell Ford serves on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and is the chairman of both the Senate Rules and Administration and the Joint Printing Committees. Mr. Ford was an insurance executive and Kentucky's governor before being elected to the Senate in 1974.

The Senate Rules Committee oversees Senate operations in the Senate. It is concerned with committee budgets, assignment of offices and similar administrative tasks. The Committee also influences election law, campaign finance limits, presidential succession, and contested elections. The Senate Rules and Administration Committee has two counterparts in the House: the House Administration Committee and the House Rules Committee.
